The Service Employees International
Unions (SEIU) was at the center of a pay-for-play political scandal. A high ranking SEIU union official appears to have agreed to
run the traps for Gov. Rod Blagojevich's attempt to sell off President Obama's Senate seat. SEIU's Illinois Political Action Committee
gave Gov. Blagojevich $908,000, making it the single largest campaign contributor for his re-election campaign. In fact, labor
unions comprised 9 of his top 15 donors. In turn, Blagojevich signed a state law handing over 49,000 state child care workers to SEIU
local 880, which was run by corrupt ACORN. The deal nearly tripled SEIU 880's income from $7 million in 2005 to $21 in 2007.
SEIU leader Laphonza Butler announced in October that she was leaving her leadership post in California’s largest labor union to partner in the firm SCRB Strategies. Their clients include Gavin Newsom, Oakland Mayor Libby Schaaf and Sen. Kamala Harris. The firm is expected to play a central role in Harris’ presidential bid, should she decide to run.
Governor Newsom knows about the corruption, how couldn’t he? The truth is he needed the money to buy the Governor’s seat and knew he could count on his old friends to make it happen. It’s bad enough to see the Governor with his bright red eyes acting strangely, but it’s quite another when he takes millions from a known syndicate.
